Green Mining Annual Seminar 2013

-Sustainable Mining – Green Tech & Mining Seminar of November 27th will start a two-day green mining seminar session held in Nosturi, Helsinki. Sustainable Mining Seminar is the final seminar of Min-Novation –projects of Kainuun Etu Ltd and the University of Oulu. The event will feature European perspectives to green growth and geo-economics of mining, good mining waste management practices from Europe, as well as green tech and mining with emphasis of environmental monitoring of mines in Finland.
Target group of the event includes mines, environmental officers, researchers, mine consultants, funders to the sector, and other interest groups that are interested in green mining and technology, mining waste and side streams issues as well as future prospects within the theme both in Finland and in Europe. The seminar is free of charge.
Min-Novation – Mining and Mineral Processing Waste Management Innovation Network (Interreg IVB, BSR 2011 - 2013) aims to create a transnational network of knowledge, state-of-the-art technologies and good practices within the mineral waste management and prevention sector in the Baltic Sea Region.
- Networking event is arranged in the evening on 27th from 17:30 to 20:00.
- Green Mining annual seminar will be arranged in the afternoon on 28th. In the Green Mining annual seminar the report of Finnish Mining Cluster Survey will be published. Dr Patrice Christman from BRGM will give an outlook of ongoing European mineral sector policy development and a view how the European raw material supply should be guaranteed. Social license to operate and mining impact assessment are increasingly important issues in mining related research. In the seminar five Green Mining projects dealing with these issues arrange a panel discussion moderated by the industry representative.
- Additionally In the morning 28th, Green Mining project NICK will have its own seminar dealing with on-line analyses technologies:
Industrial operators must be aware of the quality of waste water based on EU regulations. The aim of this work was to develop novel and rapid on-line/on-site methods and instruments to monitor mining site discharge waters, especially nickel content. This work was carried out in close co-operation between University of Oulu, Department of Physics at Tampere University of Technology, VTT and MIKES. The most essential results will be presented in the seminar. Inspirational Prof. David C. Cullen will give the keynote lecture. He is a distinguished Professor in Bioanalytical Technology at Cranfield Health, Cranfield University, UK.
