Description of the FiDiPro Programme

FiDiPro - the Finland Distinguished Professor Programme enables distinguished researchers, both international and expatriates to work and team up with the 'best of the best' in Finnish academic research.  FiDiPro provides competitive grants to projects recruiting highly merited scientists, who are able to commit to long-term cooperation with a Finnish university or research institute.

Tekes will not open a separate FiDiPro application round in 2016

In 2016, Tekes will not open an application round for FiDiPro funding separately. However, Finnish research organisations may prepare a FiDiPro type project and apply funding from other Tekes' research funding calls.

How does FiDiPro work?

Finnish universities and research institutes may propose FiDiPro Professors and FiDiPro Fellows from all disciplines. Tekes provides applicants with two alternatives:

FiDiPro Professor funding is intended for inviting international professor-level top researches to Finland.

FiDiPro Fellow funding is intended for inviting international top researchers to Finland. Under the title FiDiPro Fellow, funding is granted to promising top researchers past their post doc stage (eg. associate/assistant professor, junior professor, researcher).

Applications for FiDiPro funding are submitted by a Finnish university or research institute. The projects can also be organised as parallel projects between research organisations and companies. FiDiPro funding is granted to research projects that cover the top researcher's salary and travel expenses and the costs of the research project. Funding is awarded to projects for a fixed term with a funding period of 2 to 5 years.

Universities and research institutes are encouraged to collaborate with each other and with business and industry. Tekes funds projects that pay special attention to creating new competence in view of the needs of business life and the Finnish innovation environment.
