Finland and China have been developing close science and technology cooperation since 1986. Today, Tekes is part of the Team Finland network together with other public Finnish key actors in China.
Tekes offices in Beijing and Shanghai have good connections to Chinese authorities . The collaboration with Chinese partners has been fruitful and has created many successful projects.
Tekes has agreements, for example, with
- Beijing Science and Technology Commission
- Shanghai Science and Technology Commission
- Jiangsu Science and Technology Department
- Zhejiang Science and Technology Department.
Bilateral agreements have opened doors for excellent collaboration between China and Finland. The China – Finland ICT Alliance is a good example, where Chinese and Finnish partners have launched several joint calls together in the areas of ICT, nanotechnology and cleantech.
The cooperation in the field of the nanotechnology is important both for the enterprise and the research sector. In 2012, the Nanopolis was established serving as a base for the China Finland Nano Innovation Center.
Beautiful Beijing Project was started 1,5 years ago to improve the air quality in Beijing. It was based on a memorandum of understanding for cooperation signed in 2013 between Tekes and the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Environmental Protection in China. Because of the positive achievements of the Beautiful Beijing Project, a new growth programme has been launched with the same name, Beautiful Beijing. It offers Finnish companies speedy access to Chinese cleantech markets.
Fast growth and urbanization in China have led to harmful enviromental effects. Beautiful Beijing Growth Programme replies the strong and increasing cleantech demand in China. The Growth Programme responds not only to the air quality challenges but overall cleantech demand in the whole China.
Tekes takes part in evaluating and funding the projects of the Beautiful Beijing Growth Programme.
