Finland’s GreenStream Network Plc., a pioneer in emissions trading, is marketing investment instruments for invest in emission reduction projects around the world. They are ideal for Finnish companies covered by the EU’s emissions trading scheme (EU ETS).
“In addition to intermediary and advisory services on emissions trading, we have been offering investment instruments since 2006. These allow energy-intensive Finnish manufacturers and local power companies to obtain emissions reduction credits when they do not have enough emission allowances to cover for their emissions,” says CEO Jussi Nykänen of GreenStream Network Plc.
By investing in projects that reduce emissions, such as in renewable energy in China or Ukraine, a company can offset its own emissions. This is because the EU scheme lets companies to utilise emission credits even from outside Europe.
“These instruments also offer a good investment opportunity. By joining a project at an early stage, the company obtains emissions credits at lower price than their final market price.”
A niche of special skills
“We specialise in seeking projects that the investing companies would not otherwise find. Apart from our know-how, we have strong local skills, with experts dispersed to very distant places. We operate in eight countries and have EUR 150 million assets under management in six funds.”
GreenStream’s services are targeted at companies covered by the EU scheme for whom trading in emissions reductions is not their core business. The need to reduce emissions has been imposed on them by EU.
