European cooperation
Finland – as an EU member state – and Tekes – as a significant Finnish promoter of research, development and innovation – are involved in the development of the European research field and contribute to the strengthening of a broad innovation perspective and business life objectives.
Our experts offer Finnish businesses and research actors a wealth of information on European cooperation opportunities, helping them to succeed in tight competition and allowing them to benefit from various opportunities.
We are also involved in the implementation of cooperation between national and European programmes.
Tekes is closely involved with the following European activities
The EU Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development
The Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7) promotes and encourages the creation of European poles of scientific excellence. It is the European Union’s chief instrument for funding research over the period 2007-2013. Tekes hosts the EU Research and Innovation Programmes, which provides information on FP7 and coordinates the Finnish National Contact Point System.

ERA-NET
ERA-NETs are networks of national science and technology funding organisations in Europe. Their cooperation is funded from the EU Framework Programme. Tekes participates in roughly 20 ERA-NETs.

EUREKA - a network for market-oriented R&D
EUREKA is a pan-European network for market-oriented and industry-related R&D. It promotes the competitiveness of European companies by creating links and networks of innovation. Tekes is the coordinator of EUREKA activities in Finland.

COST - European Cooperation in Scientific and Technical Research
Finland has been highly active in taking advantage of international networking opportunities and participates in two-thirds of the almost 200 current COST activities. Tekes coordinates COST activities in Finland.

ESA - European Space Agency
Tekes coordinates, manages and funds European Space Agency cooperation in Finland. ESA projects are designed to find out more about the Earth, its immediate space environment, our Solar System and the Universe, as well as to develop satellite-based technologies and services.
