NSF Graduate Research Fellows Nordic Research Opportunity in Finland

The research groups listed under this website are examples of top research groups in Finland. Also other Finnish research groups can host NSF Graduate Research Fellows.

The Information Systems Security Research Center (ISSRC)

The Information Systems Security Research Center (ISSRC) is established to produce premier research results in the area of information security management in close cooperation with leading international scholars and practitioners. Especially, the research center seeks to put innovative and new research contributions to work in practice. The research topics covers social, organizational and management aspects of information systems security. The research center is funded by the EU, the city of Oulu, and a number of leading companies. For more information about the research center, see http://issrc.oulu.fi/about/ or contact the director of the research center professor Mikko Siponen.

Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT

The Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT conducts world-class research on future information technology. Its research ranges from fundamental methods and technologies to novel applications and their impact on people and society. HIIT’s key competences are in Internet architecture and technologies, mobile and human-centric computing, user-created media, analysis of large sets of data, and probabilistic modeling of complex phenomena. HIIT combines different styles of research: basic, strategic and innovation-oriented field research. HIIT is multidisciplinary, with scientists from computer, natural, behavioral and social sciences, as well as humanities, design, and art. The projects are conducted with private companies, universities and research institutions. HIIT is a joint research institution of Helsinki University of Technology and University of Helsinki.

Statistical Machine Learning and Bioinformatics

The research group Statistical Machine Learning and Bioinformatics, lead by professor Samuel Kaski, belongs to the Finnish Centre of Excellence on Adaptive Informatics Research and Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. We develop computational methods for statistical data mining, information visualization, exploratory data analysis, and in general for probabilistic modeling of data. Current main applications are in bio- and neuroinformatics and in information retrieval.
